Beverley Addy Journalist Copywriter

Award-winning freelance journalist, Beverley is using almost 20 years’ writing experience to create interesting and accessible publications for Sero.

 

Her job is to produce articles for the web, brochures and newsletters, focusing on ICT and digital education and skills activities in Yorkshire and the Humber where Sero is managing the Digital 2010 regional skills action plan, and north of the border in Scotland where Sero is working with the Scottish Qualifications Authority on a programme to enrich the Scottish curriculum.

 

She began her career in Huddersfield in 1988, first working on the Express and Chronicle series of weekly papers, and then the Daily Examiner.

In 1997, she moved to the North East where she worked on regional morning paper, The Journal, running the Sunderland district office before moving to The Sunderland Echo, as chief reporter, then assistant news editor in-charge of the city office.

Around five years ago she launched her freelance career under the company banner Addy Media. As a freelance writer, journalist and producer her assignments have taken her around the world to the remotest parts of northern Ghana, poverty-stricken parts of the Rift Valley in Tanzania, Sri Lanka, and European destinations.

Before going freelance, Beverley twice won the Hard News Reporter of the Year award, at the Tom Cordner North East Press Awards, in 2000 and 2001. In her early years she was also highly commended in the Yorkshire Press Awards Junior Journalist category

Alongside her part-time work for Sero, Beverley continues to write news and feature articles for national newspapers and magazines, and has a variety of other strings to her business including web, radio and television work, film making and creative writing. She is currently working on children’s books with a Yorkshire illustrator.
