The events have so far brought together musicians and creatives from across the spectrum each with a unique story to tell about how to make a creative life.

Chris Watson, a founder of Cabaret Voltaire,  now  a distinguished and award-winning sound recordist, thrilled the audience with the roars of lions, the sounds of extraordinary thunderstorms and the commentary of David Attenborough recorded on location.

Roo Pigott of Alamo Music described his life as a music entrepreneur, writing , recording and managing his up and coming  indie band FourDay Hombre, while DJ Sophie Toes reminded the young people listening they needed to follow their passions and dreams and showcased some of her own skills by presenting some fantastic original remixes.

Jan Webster of Sandman magazine explained how the magazine is put together and invited any aspiring writers and photographers to go for it and get sending in their reviews and pictures.

Finally Punk band The Hyenas offered an impromptu instrumental version of ‘Justify Your Life”, which stunned an excited audience of young people.

“ Wow I loved it!” said teenager Naima Ibrahim of Firth Park School, and friend Natalie Wilson  added, “I thought it was very inspiring and intriguing hearing all about the process and how to get involved in the creative industries.”

Students from Firth Park, High Storrs, Notre Dame and City Schools joined the musicians, artists and entrepreneurs and had the opportunity to put questions to the panel as well as enjoying the different showcases and individual stories.  The event was filmed by students from The Sheffield College, who had also created the purpose-built studio set at Norton College.

Zapstudio Programme Director Brigidin Crowther commented,  “We believe events such as DARE are powerful in showing how the creative industries work and hopefully offering access to as many talented young people as possible – in this sector what you need is creativity and passion and to hear how to make a creative life offers inspiration and support to the creatives of the future.”
