Project: |
Digital
Skills for a Connected Region: The
Yorkshire & Humber Digital and
ICT Skills Action Plan 2005-2009 |
 |
Sponsor: |
Yorkshire Forward
on behalf of a regional partnership
including Learning and Skills Council,
Business Link and the Skills for Business
Network (represented by e-Skills UK
and Skillset). |
Purpose: |
To set the compass
for digital and ICT skills development
for the next five years across one
of the UK’s largest regions.
The Plan will create over 305,000 learning
opportunities |
Our
contribution: |
Sero managed and developed the framework
for the consultation exercise and was responsible for drafting the Action Plan
and gaining cross-regional approval. In the subsequent roll out contract, Sero
is responsible for management and marketing of the Action Plan, working with
partners York Consulting for monitoring and evaluation. |
Our
approach: |
We worked collaboratively
in a consortium with experts from across
the region and developed the Plan iteratively
over a four month period through an
intensive series of workshops, meetings,
individual interviews, document circulation
and review.
We recommended that the
Plan incorporate digital skills as
well as ICT skills,
recognising the growth in web-related
technologies and the widespread adoption
of digital media, and also that it
should encompass the broad-based needs
of citizens, users
and professionals outside of the specialist
digital industries.
A distinctive feature
of our approach was to advocate and
develop a public
document to help raise awareness
and translate the key points of the
Plan
into readable story scenarios of
what life might be like based on the
impact
of the 39 proposed actions. |
Results: |
The Action Plan
has been completed and has been signed
off by the regional partnership.
Sero has won the subsequent contract for Marketing, Management and Monitoring of the Action Plan to 2009, working closely with the regional steering group.

our role at e-Skills UK is to help
employers get the ICT skills they need
to be competitive and productive. This
Action Plan will be a major contributor
to the increased competitiveness of
Yorkshire & Humber employers as
it has the flexibility to respond to
their emerging skills needs’.
